Casella’s Microtherm WBGT heat stress monitor provides an overall estimation of heat stress levels on a body using the Wet Bulb Globe Temperature (WBGT) Index and is used to protect workers who are subject to hot working environments. The WBGT index is the combination of data from three temperature sensors into a single value which can then be compared with reference values as they relate to a specific work regime. Workers who are subject to hot working environments, in cases where the body’s core temperature may rise to dangerous or hazardous levels, may be subject to heat stress and physiological symptoms such as palpitations, nausea, cramps, stroke, and in extreme cases death. A heat stress monitor like the Microtherm WBGT can be used to guard against these conditions. The Microtherm WBGT is well suited for applications including foundries, steel works, power stations, glass manufacturing, bakeries, medical surveillance, and much more.

The Microtherm WBGT monitors heat stress by measuring simultaneously from three PRTD sensors for wet bulb (tnw), dry bulb (ta), and globe (tg) temperatures, which are manufactured to high standards of accuracy BS 1904 and DIN 43760. You can mount the sensors directly to the Microtherm WBGT, or positioned remotely using a 30 foot cable. Both the meter and its sensors have tripod sockets for easy mounting.

Hardware features of the Microtherm WBGT heat stress monitor include a large LCD with real time display of changing levels, low water level alarm, RH% and dewpoint calculation, audible alarms with bright visuals when heat stress levels have been exceeded, and memory for up to 49,100 data records taken at a range of configurable times. Included PC software allows transfer of data and evaluation, and also allows the Microtherm WBGT to be configured for automatic calculation of work and rest regimes. Up to 85 hours of use can be achieved through four AA alkaline batteries or up to 20 hours through a rechargeable NiCad battery pack.
