The GammaRAE II R radiation detector is both a rapid response detector and an accurate dosimeter for gamma radiation. A Cesium Iodide scintillator provides a fast two second response to gamma radiation threats, while the energy compensated pin diode provides accurate dose measurements. The graphic LCD screen can display peak, min, dose rate, total dose, temperature, time, and battery status. Radiation intensity can be display in cps and dosage rate in divistions of R/h or Sv/h.

For the detection of both gamma and neutron radiation levels, RAE Systems manufacturers the NeutronRAE II radiation detector. Which can also approximate dose measurements for gamma radiation.

Alarm notification is achieved by a loud 85 dB buzzer, bright red LEDs, and vibration. The GammaRAE II R offers two alarm modes, search or safety. Search alarm mode is for detecting variations in the local background level of radiation, while safety mode has user adjustable low and high thresholds based on dose rate. Every GammaRAE II R includes built in datalogging for up to 30,000 data points with user adjustable logging intervals ranging from 1 to 3,600 seconds. A built in bluetooth connection is used to connect to a PC for downloading data and instrument configuration. No calibration is required and 2 AA alkaline batteries can operate the instrument for up to 600 hours (500 hours with NiMh batteries). An optional rechargeable kit includes NiMh batteries and a charging cradle allowing the batteries to be charged while still in the instrument.

The GammaRAE II R downloads logged data to a PC via a bluetooth wireless connection. Built in bluetooth recievers are available on many modern laptops. For computers without built in bluetooth functionality, an inexpensive USB dongle can be purchased to add bluetooth capabilities.

The GammaRAE II R was designed for the needs of first responders, security officers, law enforcement, the military, fire departments, hazmat teams, customs, and border patrol. Featuring a rugged, immersible, intrinsically safe, IP67 rated enclosure for operation in wet environments, flammable/explosive environments, and easy decontamination.
