FID/PID Combination Detector
The TVA1000B is an FID that is also available as a FID/PID combination analyzer. It is both portable and intrinsically safe.

Thermo's TVA1000B is a toxic vapor analyzer that combines FID and PID detection in a single, intrinsically safe, portable instrument. The unique combination of both detector technologies allows the user to monitor both organic and inorganic compounds simultaneously. The FID has a large range of 0 to 50,000 ppm and allows monitoring of organic compounds with a high ionization potential, including Methane, that cannot be detected by a PID. The FID is also unaffected by water vapor. The PID can detect organic and inorganic compounds below the ionization potential of its lamp. Many inorganic compounds like Hydrogen Sulfide, Formaldehyde, Carbon Tetrachloride, Ammonia, and Carbon Disulfide are not detectable by an FID. The PID also allows measurements to be taken in an anaerobic enviroment, and requires no fuel to operate. This unique combination of detector technologies combined in one instrument allows a wide range of compounds to be monitored over an extended range, and comparison of the readings from both detectors simulatneously provides some information about the identity of the compounds being measured. The TVA1000B removes the need to maintain two seperate instruments, however, it is also available with just an FID detector.
In addition to providing a wider range of compounds that can be measured, dual detectors can also help to identify compounds by comparing the measurements from each detector. For example, the FID responds well to Methane, but the PID does not since Methane's ionization potential is above what the TVA1000's 11.8 eV lamp can monitor. Also some inorganic compounds detected by the PID are not detected by the FID.
The TVA1000B complete kit comes with the standard probe that displays concentration levels from both detectors (ppm,ppb, or % volume), and as a bar graph. Function keys on the standard probe allow selection of common analyzer settings. The optional DataManager probe eliminates the need for manual recording of route data by allowing the user to modify and create routes while in the field. This capability allows easy compliance with any electronic data storage requirements. The DataManager probe also features 360 degree LEDs that pulse at a rate relative to concentration, and allows access to all sidepack controls from the probe itself.
Every TVA1000B includes onboard datalogging and ThermoConnect software for downloading and analyzing data from the instrument. A built in NiCD rechargeable battery pack and a single, field swappable, hydrogen cylinder provides 8 hours of operation time.
