XRF Rentals for Rare Earth Elements (REE) Mining and Exploration

The Niton XL5 Plus analyzer has a Rare Earth Element Mode that covers a wide range of elements from magnesium to uranium, including light rare earth elements like lanthanum, cerium, praseodymium, and neodymium. Scandium and yttrium have similar chemical properties and are often found in the same ore deposits as heavy rare earth elements. By measuring the concentrations of yttrium and scandium, it is possible to estimate the concentrations of heavier rare earth elements. The analyzer can quickly map the concentration of elements using integrated GPS or by connecting to an external professional GPS. It has an IP54 rating, which means it is splash-proof and dustproof, making it suitable for use in rugged exploration fields and mines.

Thermo Niton has developed a specialized mining mode for REE exploration and mining. While similar in function to the standard mining mode, the elements Lanthanum, Cerium, Praseodymium and Neodymium have been added. These additional light REEs often occur in ore with heavy REEs allowing faster mapping of elemental concentration. The XL5 Plus is Thermo Niton’s flag ship portable analyzer. It comes standard with many features that are optional on other instruments, including both Macro/Micro cameras, and integrated GPS for documentation.
