These samplers provide an easy way to obtain samples in soft, finely divided littoral bottoms. They are not recommended for rocky bottoms or moderate macrophy. Ponar dredges are widely used in fresh and saltwater for taking samples of hard bottoms. They come in “Petitie” or “Standard” versions.

Choose this grab sampler for soft, finely divided littoral bottoms. It is not recommended for rocky bottoms or moderate macrophyte growth because small pebbles or macrophyte stems prevent proper jaw closure.
Petite Ponar Dredge Sampler

Thius petite version of the Ponar sampler weighs under 25 pounds, and you can use it on a line without the winch and crane recommended for the larger version.
Standard Ponar Dredge Sampler

The standard Ponar dredge is widely used in fresh and salt water for taking samples of hard bottoms such as sand, gravel, consolidated marl or clay. This deliberately heavy device can bite deep into the bottom and it is simple to use.
