RAE Systems’ NeutronRAE II provides a fast, 2 second response to both neutron and gamma radiation using a Cesium Iodide scintillator for gamma radiation and a lithium Iodide scintillator for neutron radiation. Gamma radiation dose accumulation can also be approximated. The LCD display reads out both gamma and neutron radiation in cps individually, and can also display gamma radiation dose accumulation in µR/h or µS/h.

For applications that do not require the detection of neutron radiation, RAE Systems manufactures the GammaRAE II R personal radiation detector. Which provides accurate gamma dose accumulation readings in place of neutron radiation detection.

The user is notified of alarms via a loud 85 dB buzzer, flashing LED lights, and vibration. Each alarm notification type can be individually disabled for stealth operations. Similiar to the GammaRAE II R, the NeutronRAE II also has two types of alarm modes, search and safety. Search mode provides seperate gamma and neutron alarm levels based on the variations in the background level. Safety mode sets dose rate thresholds (for gamma radiation only). All NeutronRAE II’s come with datalogging for up to 30,000 points of data. Logging intervals are user adjustable and can be set from 1 to 3,600 seconds. Data is downloaded to a PC with a wireless bluetooth connection. 2 AA alkaline batteries operate the NeutronRAE II for 900 hours. Calibration is not required, but periodic functional testing using a check source is recommended. Factory calibration can be performed if required.

The NeutronRAE II downloads data to a PC only through it’s internal bluetooth wireless connection. This capability is available on many modern PCs. A small, inexpensive, USB dongle can be purchased to provide bluetooth functionality to PCs that do not have this feature.

The NeutronRAE II is enclosed in a rugged, immersible, IP67 rated casing. It is also intrinsically safe for use in explosive environments. With the detection of both gamma and neutron radiation, along with approximate gamma dose accumulation, the NeutronRAE II is suitable for many applications.
